HURRICANE      The Middle Passage
Sizes

Undoubtedly one of the most powerful forces in nature, hurricanes originate off the west coast of Africa and travel thousands of miles across the Atlantic Ocean to attack the eastern shores of North America. Ironically, this was the same route the slave ships traveled during the african slave trade. Throughout history this route has become known as The Middle Passage. It was common feeding ground for sharks due to the hundreds of sick and injured slaves thrown overboard during these trips from Africa to America. Generations later sharks instinctively still travel this route in search of food. Many of the states affected by hurricanes, ie: West Virginia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida, were heavily involved in the african slave trade ...coincidence?..maybe...maybe not!

Within the midst of the storm are the casualties of slavery.

Slaves being led to a ship at gun-point by their captors.

Slaves being thrown overboard to become food for the sharks.

The dead bodies of slaves adrift in a blood-stained ocean.

                                                                                                                                                 A slave-master takes a whip to slave.

A shackled slave being sold on the auction block.

                                                                                                                                                 A lynching.

Run-away slaves wading through water to freedom.

The shackled ankles of slaves walking in bloody footprints

A giant hand representing thousands of slaves entombed in

the sea, emerges from its' depths seeking revenge.

In the eye of the hurricane is calm:  the spiritual eye.

                                                                                                                                                                              WHERE GOD LIVES!
